Volunteer Opportunities

Homework Room (Youth Tutor) - This position requires the volunteer to be present to tutor elementary through high school age persons at least one hour a week. Two hours a week would be preferred. The homework room is open from 2:30 to 6:00 pm when school is in session.

Teen Night (Youth Leader) - This position is very open and fairly flexible. Volunteers are needed for set-up, tear down, to serve food, help keep the event organized, and to make presentations. If you are interested in making a presentation about your career, contact the volunteer coordinator and he/she will get with you about a good night that will fit into your schedule.

Story Telling - This position is still being created. It requires a commitment of 2 hours a month to tell stories to younger children. The person wishing to volunteer for this position should be animated and have a fun personality as well as enjoy children.

Christmas Caroling - A volunteer is needed to instruct this program beginning in early November thru just before Christmas. The children will learn carols and then sing them as the Marka Nursing Home as well as the Mascoutah Senior Center. This position requires a commitment of at least two hours per week during the season.

Cooking Class - Volunteers are needed to hold a cooking class with eight students. During this time a meal and a dessert will be prepared. This position will only require one evening of 2 hours. The volunteer will come up with a plan for the meal so that the supplies may be purchases ahead of time.

Referee - This position is for someone who has an interest in either basketball or football and clearly understands the rules of the game. A commitment of 2-4 hours oer week or whenever available during the basketball and football seasons is preferred.


Coach - This position is for someone who has an interest in either basketball or football and clearly understands the rules of the game. The person who volunteers for this position should be organized as well as enjoy children. A commitment of 5-6 hours per week during basketball and football season is preferred for this position.

Recreational Aide - This position is for someone who enjoys working with children and has a good amount of energy. This is just a fun position where the volunteer will have interaction with children in the center by playing games, communicating, and spending time with them.

Grant Writer - This position is for someone who can write well. The person who volunteers for this job will create letters asking businesses and individuals for donations. This person might also be asked to write award packages.

Exercise Leader - This position is for someone who is energetic and can lead an exercise program or class. The center is very open to offering new fitness classes. If you would like to instruct a weekly fitness class, and love being around people, this might be the job for you!
